After the meeting: Auburn City Council highlights from March 19, 2024

AUBURN, Ala.- The Auburn City Council took the following actions at its second regular meeting in March:

Approved seven conditional use requests. The council approved several conditional use requests for restaurants, residential developments, a gas station, an industrial use and a warehouse. Information about each of these requests is available in the meeting materials at auburnalabama.org/agenda.

Approved tax abatements related to the expansion of two existing companies in the City's technology parks. The council approved tax abatements for Donaldson Company, Inc. and Pyongsan America, Inc. Donaldson Company Inc. is investing approximately $3 million in its facility in Auburn Technology Park South and plans to hire 40 new employees over the next two years. Pyongsan America, Inc. is investing approximately $2.6 million in its facility in Auburn Technology Park North and expects to hire 20 new employees over the next two years.

The council also:

  • Appointed Celest Smith Norris to serve a six-year term on the Water Works Board.
  • Approved annexation and rezoning requests related to the Biltmore Commerce Park located at 94 Lee Road 9 (Biltmore Lane).
  • Approved the annexation of 3.41 acres at 178 Lee Road 72 (East Farmville Road).
  • Renewed a franchise agreement with Tallapoosa River Electric Cooperative, which provides electrical service to parts of Auburn.

The next regular council meeting will be held on Tuesday, April 2, at 6 p.m. The meeting will take place in the Council Chamber, located at 141 N. Ross St. in the Public Safety Building.
